I’m Lee from LMS Heating Solutions, a Gas Safe registered engineer (no. 974132) based in Telford. I work on domestic natural gas central heating systems for homeowners across Telford and Shropshire. I cover all kinds of central heating work on domestic gas boiler systems, from first and second fix to full system replacements, as well as repairs, tracking down leaks and power flushing. If your heating isn’t doing its job, I’ll find out why and explain it in plain English.

Central heating problems I fix

  • Radiators that won’t heat up, or have cold patches
  • A house that takes too long to warm up, or some rooms that never do
  • Leaking radiators and heating pipework
  • A noisy system: banging, gurgling or rumbling pipes and boiler
  • Pressure that keeps dropping on a sealed (combi or system boiler) heating system
  • No heating at all, where I’ll check the boiler and system to find the cause

If the fault is in the boiler itself, see my boiler repair page. I repair domestic gas boilers from all the major boiler brands.

Central heating work on domestic gas boiler systems: first fix, second fix and full system replacements

Whether you’re building an extension, renovating, or your old system has simply had its day, here’s what that work covers:

  • First fix: the early stage of a job, before floors go down and walls are plastered. This is when the heating pipework is run through the house to where the radiators and boiler will go.
  • Second fix: once the plastering and decorating are done, I come back to fit and connect the radiators, valves and heating controls and get the system working.
  • Full system replacements: taking out an old central heating system and replacing it, including pipework, radiators and controls.

Radiators and heating controls in Telford

Radiators are often where heating problems first show up. As part of my heating work, I can:

  • Find out why a radiator is cold, whether that’s air, sludge, a sticking valve or a system that needs balancing
  • Track down and repair leaks on radiators
  • Replace, add or move radiators, for example as part of a refit or extension
  • Fit and replace radiator valves and heating controls

Central heating pipework

I work on domestic natural gas central heating and pipework within my Gas Safe registration categories, and I carry out general heating pipework repairs and replacements. On the gas side, I carry out domestic gas pipework installations, gas tightness testing, safety checks and repairs as a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Finding hidden heating leaks

A leak on a heating pipe under the floor or behind a wall often shows up first as a boiler that keeps losing pressure, or a damp patch that won’t dry out. I use a thermal imaging camera, pressure testing and careful fault-finding to pinpoint where the leak is, with as little disruption to your home as possible. See my leak detection page for more.

Sludge and power flushing

Over time, sludge (a mix of rust and debris) can build up inside radiators and pipes and stop heat getting round the house. Where your system needs it, I offer power flushing to clean it out. I’ll always check the system first and tell you honestly whether that’s the right fix.

Repair, upgrade or new boiler?

Sometimes the best answer is a straightforward repair. Sometimes the boiler is the weak link. I’ll tell you straight which makes sense for your home. If a new boiler is the better option, see new boiler installation in Telford. For taps, pipes, toilets and other water jobs, see general plumbing.

Central heating FAQs

Why is one radiator always cold?

If it’s cold at the top and warm at the bottom, there’s usually air trapped inside and it needs bleeding. If it’s cold at the bottom, sludge is the likely cause. If the whole radiator stays cold while the others heat up, a stuck valve or a system that needs balancing is more likely. If bleeding doesn’t sort it, give me a call.

Why is my boiler losing pressure?

On a sealed heating system, the pressure should stay fairly steady. If you’re regularly topping it up, water is usually escaping somewhere: a leaking radiator valve, a pipe joint, or a part such as the pressure relief valve. If it keeps dropping, it needs finding before it causes damage.

How often should central heating be serviced?

Your gas boiler is the part that needs a yearly service: see boiler servicing. The rest of the system doesn’t need a separate annual service, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for cold radiators, leaks or pressure drops.

What kind of heating systems do you work on?

I work on domestic natural gas central heating systems, including the boiler, radiators, controls and pipework, from first and second fix to full system replacements.
