Much Wenlock sits on the A458 between Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth, a short drive south-west of the Ironbridge Gorge. It’s a Shropshire Council town rather than a Telford and Wrekin one, but it’s still a TF postcode and it’s well within my patch.

Old buildings, careful work

Much Wenlock is a historic town. The priory ruins, the Guildhall and Holy Trinity Church are well known, and plenty of the houses are old too. Where a home is listed, or the street has conservation status, a new flue on the front wall or a boiler in a new spot may need permission. Where that’s likely, I’ll tell you before we plan anything, so you can check with Shropshire Council’s planning team first.

In older homes the gas pipe route, the flue position and where the condensate pipe can drain decide a lot about a boiler swap. I check all three on my first visit rather than finding out on fitting day.

Gas only, and I’ll tell you straight

My Gas Safe registration covers domestic natural gas. If your home is on oil or LPG, I can’t work on that boiler, and I’ll say so on the phone instead of wasting your morning.

If you rent out a home, the law says the gas appliances and flues you provide for your tenants must be safety checked at least every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer. I carry out landlord gas safety checks on domestic natural gas appliances in rented homes in Telford and Shropshire, and give you the Landlord Gas Safety Record (often called a CP12).

A landlord gas safety check and certificate costs £80 for one gas appliance, and £10 for each extra appliance. Tell me the postcode and which gas appliances are in the property, and I’ll book the check in.

How do I know whether my house is on mains gas?

If there’s a gas meter, normally in a box outside or under the stairs, and a gas supplier on your bills, you’re on mains gas. If you have an oil tank or LPG bottles, you’re not.

Is Much Wenlock too far out for you?

Can you service a boiler fitted by someone else?
