New boiler questions

How much does a new boiler cost? It depends on the boiler, the output your home needs, whether it stays in the same place, the flue, and the condition of your heating system. You get a fixed price before I start, and if anything unforeseen comes up I’ll talk it through with you before any extra work.

Combi, system or regular boiler: which do I need? A combi heats water on demand, with no hot water cylinder, and usually suits smaller homes with one bathroom. System and regular boilers work with a hot water cylinder and can suit homes with more bathrooms or higher hot water use. I’ll recommend what fits how your household actually uses hot water.

Should I repair or replace my old boiler? If it’s a simple, affordable repair on a boiler in good condition, I’ll say so. If parts are hard to get, faults keep coming back, or the repair is a big share of the cost of a new boiler, replacement often makes more sense. You’ll get the honest picture either way.

Do you fit LPG or oil boilers? No. I’m Gas Safe registered for domestic natural gas work, so I fit and replace natural gas boilers in homes. If your home runs on LPG or oil, you’ll need an engineer qualified for that fuel.

Will I get a certificate for my new boiler? Yes. In England and Wales, a new gas boiler has to be notified under the Building Regulations. The installation is notified through Gas Safe Register, which informs your local authority. You’ll then get a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate in the post. Keep it with your house documents: you may need it if you sell or remortgage.

Are you insured? Yes. I hold £5 million public liability insurance.

Can you fit a boiler in a new build or extension? Yes. As well as replacing boilers, I offer system design and consultation for new builds and extensions, so the boiler and heating are planned around the space from the start.
